EDIT 2: Just three days left, guys! Get your entries in SOON and have a happy Halloween!
EDIT 1: More prizes added! Plus, September is coming to an end. Are you working on your entry yet? Share WiPs in the comments!
After much delay, our next contest is finally here! It starts NOW and ends Octobor 31st, Halloween!
The Theme: Create a mask to represent any of the traditions involving funeral rights or the personification of death (or both). Some of the most interesting traditions from around the world stem from our veneration and honoring of death.
For instance, the Egyptians utilized elaborate masks in funerary rights for both the preparers of the deceased and for the deceased, themselves, on the path to immortalize their spirits.
Show us! Be creative. Do your research! Masks will be judged on originality AND including an explanation of how your mask relates to the tradition you're drawing inspiration from.
Unlike last time, made up traditions will be allowed (ie. funerary rites or 'reaper' characters from your original writings or a pre-existing literary world) as long as you explain them in your description!
TO ENTER: Leave a link on this journal entry. Only one (1) entry per person. Entries must be completely new and not something that was already in your gallery!
DEADLINE: October 31st, 2014
VOTING: I'll be asking for our members to Note me their votes (everyone gets ONE vote), and then tallying up the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Voting will begin November 1st and last a week. If you don't get your vote in within that time period, it will not be counted.
PRIZE POT:
Here's where I could use the help of the Members here at this Group (or their talented and/or rich friends)! Do you have anything you can donate to our prize winners? Be it DA points, original art/crafts, leather crafting tools, usable leather scraps, gift cards, or even simply a promo feature somewhere? I do not have the funds to give very many prizes by myself, unfortunately. Help me make this a more impressive prize pot!
If the winners don't want a particular prize, they can choose to opt out of them once they are contacted about their winnings OR take the prizes and gift them to other Members/people they like.

ARTISAN FEATURE: Cyndy Salisbury
Artisan of the Month! I’ve featured this artisan before, but Cyndy Salisbury has been creating even more amazing masks since then! I love the dreamlike quality and texture of her masks with so many fragile seeming details.

December 2014 Artisan QnA
It's Christmaaas! I hope you all have a wonderful day today with lots of presents and food. I only have one question to answer for this month's Q&A, but it's a doozy!
Q. hiddencait asks: Is there a series that you really want to try doing fanmasks for, but haven't attempted yet?
A. Oh boy, this is a fun question! As usual, I have my creative life cycle planned out until my golden years. I'm going to answer this question with visuals!
The first big fandom I'd love to create masks for would be the Kushiel's Legacy series of books by Jacqueline Carey. For those who don't know it, it features such inspiring themes as angels, masquerad
