|Welcome to AngelaSasser's artisan account! |
This mask is entitled "January's Mask" and has some intricate scroll work and floral patterns, that I'd like to learn more about!
For starters, I'd like to ask Angela the inspiration behind this particular piece and then segue into today's question: What themes do you find are most influential in your work?
I transfer my love of painting fantasy art onto the canvas of leather.|
Currently based in Atlanta, Georgia, I learned my trade from the tutorials of Andrea Masse-Tongetti (also known as Merimask). Andrea's techniques helped me to finally discover an outlet for my love of the symbolism and beauty of masks, which I had previously only explored via my writings and illustrations.
I have been crafting masks ever since that very first experiment in 2009. I work as a fantasy illustrator by day, where my love of Art Nouveau and Romantic art inspires my leather crafts.
My leather items are meticulously carved by hand, soaked in water, and baked in the oven to harden them. After hardening, I paint my items by hand, where I get to have the real fun of the entire process. For more info, see my FAQ.
You can watch videos of my process on YouTube:
If you're curious about my illustration work, you can find it at AngelaSasser, while you can read my writings at AngelaSasser-story.
